Pathways of Public Service and Civic Engagement – Institute

The Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University invites college and university faculty, staff, and administrators working in the service learning, public service, and civic engagement fields to attend.

Institute Focus

The intent of the Institute is to introduce more faculty and staff to the Pathways framework and tool. Participants will:

  • build connections among current and potential Working Group members;
  • learn about promising practices for using the framework and tool;
  • pilot a workshop designed to introduce students to the Pathways; and
  • explore and deepen the research potential of the tool and data collected.

Institute Facilitators

The institute will be led by current members of the Pathways International Working Group. Our members have used the framework and tool at public and private two- and four-year institutions, and are eager to share what they’ve done and how their students have benefited.

Institute Costs

There is a $100 registration fee, but scholarships will cover registration costs for as many participants as possible. Meals will be provided (Thursday dinner and Friday breakfast and lunch). Participants will be responsible for transportation and lodging. Lodging will be available on campus and in nearby Palo Alto. There is no fee to use the Pathways framework and tool.

Transportation Options

The closest major airports to Stanford are San Francisco International (21 miles) and San Jose International (17 miles). Stanford is accessible from the Palo Alto station of the Caltrain system. For those traveling from outside California, consider adding a weekend to visit San Francisco (1 hour), Napa and Sonoma wine country (2.5 hours), or Yosemite National Park (4.5 hours).
