Krista Tippett: Emerging Generations' Redefinition of the Meaning of "Success"
January 29, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 6:15 pm
Krista Tippett, host of the On Being podcast, is the 2019 Mimi and Peter E. Haas Distinguished Visitor. The Distinguished Visitor program of the Haas Center for Public Service brings to Stanford prominent individuals whose lives and careers have had significant impact across the nation and globally through distinct public service contributions.
Krista Tippett founded On Being as a national public radio show in 2003 and took the show into independent production in 2013. The On Being Project, which Tippett leads, is now innovating a new model of “media and public life.” On the show, which airs on more than 400 public radio stations and was downloaded as a podcast over 50 million times last year, her guests include theologians, scientists, poets, social creatives, and figures such as Desmond Tutu, Thich Nhat Hanh, and U.S. Senator Cory Booker, ’91, MA ’92. When President Barack Obama awarded Tippett the National Humanities Medal in 2014, he said: for “On the air and in print, Ms. Tippett avoids easy answers, embracing complexity and inviting people of every background to join her conversation about faith, ethics, and moral wisdom.”
Tippett will be joined by Abraham Verghese, the Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor and award-winning author of Cutting for Stone, and Denise Pope, senior lecturer in the Stanford Graduate School of Education and co-founder of Challenge Success.
The Distinguished Visitor event will be followed by a reception.
