Choosing a Medical Relief Trip

May 21, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Are you going on a short-term medical relief trip or medical mission this summer, or have you gone on one in the past? Learn how to assess medical relief organizations for efficacy, sustainability, and long-term impact in order to make a solid choice for future volunteer trips.

In this workshop, Melodyanne Cheng will present her research investigating how international short-term term medical relief trips (STMRT) organizations from the United States currently provide free medical care to underserved populations in Latin America. She will both highlight the well-meaning work done by these organizations and also call for a higher and more uniform standard of care in international medical relief.

About the Presenter:

Melodyanne Cheng is a Master’s student in Comparative Medicine from San Diego, CA. Her passions in neuroscience, health equity, and community health drew her towards understanding human health from both a sociocultural perspective and a biological one.
