2018 Stephen H. Schneider Memorial Lecture featuring Geisha J. Williams

The sixth annual Stephen H. Schneider Memorial Lecture will feature speaker Geisha J. Williams, CEO and President of PG&E Corporation. Williams will deliver her talk on “Energy Network of Tomorrow: How to Reach California’s Climate Goals.”

During the talk, Geisha J. Williams will describe how the biggest engineering feat of the 20th century is the key to solving California’s biggest challenge in the 21st. Several years ago, the National Academy of Engineering ranked the greatest engineering achievements of the last century – topping their list was the electric grid. Today, the grid is more relevant than ever as California looks to decarbonize its economy. Williams will discuss how the grid has helped California lead the way on climate progress, and how the state can—and must—continue to leverage its power if it is to achieve the ambitious climate goals it has set over the next one to three decades.

Under Williams’ leadership, PG&E is responsible for providing safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy to 16 million people in northern and central California. During her tenure at PG&E, the company has become a leader in renewables integration, grid modernization and smart grid technologies, while also achieving the best electric reliability in company history.

The Schneider lecture is held annually in honor of Dr. Stephen H. Schneider, Stanford professor and world-renowned climate scientist who passed away in 2010. Dr. Schneider is survived by his widow, Terry Root.
